Grace to you & peace from God our Father & the Lord Jesus Christ.
“Risks & Rewards” is July 13th’s evening entry from Dr. David Jeremiah’s ‘Walking with God: 365 Daily Devotions’.
"By faith the harlot Rahab did not perish with those who did not believe, when she had received the spies with peace." Hebrews 11:31
Rahab took a great risk when she hid two Hebrew spies from the king of Jericho and his army. Yet her risk was not impulsive or foolish. She had heard the stories of Israel’s victories and the works of their God (YHWH). She believed–by faith–that God would indeed destroy the city of Jericho. She knew in her heart that her risk would result in a great reward.
We know from Scripture that God honored Rahab’s risk. She and her household were the only ones spared from destruction in Jericho. She began a new life, marrying a Jewish man, and eventually became a part of the genealogy of Christ.
At one time in your life, you took a risk like Rahab. You made a covenant based on faith to save you from the destruction of sin. Your decision to follow Christ might have been considered risky by some. But was the risk worth it?
Yes! Unlike other risks in life, God always delivers on His promises. Thank God for the gift of your salvation!
To end, a quote from Søren Kierkegaard, “For without risk there is no faith, and the greater the risk the greater the faith.”
The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. Amen.
