Shall I Go?: Daily Devotional

“Shall I Go?” is October 3’s entry from Dr. David Jeremiah’s ‘Turning Points with God: 365 Daily Devotions’.

"You are my rock and my fortress; therefore, for Your name's sake, lead me and guide me." Psalm 31:3

Think of all the places you have to go on an average day–literally. You arise in the morning and go to the shower, then to the closet to get dressed, then to the kitchen, then to work, then to lunch, then to errands, then home… and those are only after you decided where to get married, where to go to school, where to live, where to work, and where to go to church.

Now think about how many of those “wheres” you consulted God about before setting out. Where in your spiritual life do you draw the line between those things that you don’t inquire of the Lord about and those you do?

That line falls somewhere between what to eat for breakfast and whom to marry–and it’s probably different for every person. Think of it a different way: is anything too trivial to ask the Lord about? Perhaps the key lies in developing what Paul called “the mind of Christ” (1 Corinthians 2:16)–a combination of asking God about some things and developing wisdom from Him about most other things, knowing how God would answer before we ask.

Do you live in an ongoing conversation with God about your next steps? Talk to God this week as if He is right beside you, which He is, and cares about every decision you need to make, which He does.

To end, a quote from a traditional proverb, “Man proposes, God disposes.”
