“Bright Stars” is October 8’s entry from Dr. David Jeremiah’s ‘Turning Points with God: 365 Daily Devotions’.
"Those who are wise shall shine like the brightness of the firmament, and those who turn many to righteousness like the stars forever and ever." Daniel 12:3
Many city dwellers who visit the countryside comment on how bright the stars are compared to where they live. In reality, though, the stars have not gotten brighter. Rather, the darkness surrounding them has gotten darker, making them stand out.
Being a Christian in the world today can be discouraging at times when we look at how dark our surroundings are becoming. But just as stars shine brightest when enveloped by a pitch-black night sky, the light of Christ should be most radiant in our lives when we are surrounded by the darkness of this day and age.
Jesus said, in Matthew 5:16, “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven”. Christians do not be disheartened by the increase of evil in the world; it is simply our cue to take center stage and shine with all our might for the glory of our Savior.
To end, a quote from DL Moody, “Remember a small light will do a good deal when it is in a very dark place. You put one little tallow candle in the middle of a large hall, and it will give a good deal of light.”
