Conclusion–Job Search Lessons Learned: 12 Key Take-Aways

That’s a wrap. You have made it to the end of the Job Search Lessons Learned series. As you can see, there is a lot to do in regards to in regards to your next opportunity. In this series, I delivered my lessons learned in regards to social media, networking, the résumé, applying, interviewing, and more. My hope is that you do not make the same mistakes that I have. If  you avoid them, then this was a success. The biggest take away that I came to the conclusion on is to think of yourself as an entrepreneur, and the product and service you are selling and marketing is yourself. That is how you need to approach your career. Whether in reality, you are a W2 employee, a contractor, a consultant, or an entrepreneur, you need to have that mindset.

Pick and choose what works for you. Pass it along to your colleagues. Let me know what has worked for you and/or what your biggest take away was. Out of all of this, I would say personally, the self-discovery was well worth it. I have learned a lot about myself and have never felt more confident in what I can bring to the table. I hope this has prepared you for taking on the next challenge.

So here is a question to the community:

“Which topic was the most insightful for you and why?”

Thank you for your time,

Job Search Lessons Learned Navigation

Before

01) Social Media. It is time for a clean-up and health check of your online presence.
02) Self-Discovery. As the famous rock band, The Who, once asked: “Whooooo are you? Who, who? Who, who?”
03) What do you want? It’s not all about them, you are a unique snowflake and you should be confident about that.
04) Networking. If you take only one thing away from this series, it HAS to be this.
05) Résumé Information. The source of truth for your résumé(s), applications, cover letters, and interviews.
06) Résumé. How should it look? I don’t know, has the person reviewing eaten lately? What day of the week is it? Which season is it? Did they recently take time off? Did they get a good or bad review? How was traffic this morning?

During

07) Tracking. Release the OCD!
08) Social Media. Yes, you need to use it. Don’t fight it.
09) Networking and Referrals. That is how important this is, I talk about it twice!
10) Applying. I’ll just tell you now, it feels like a black hole sometimes.
11) Interview. The moment you have been waiting for!
12) Professional Assistance. Sometimes you cannot see the forest for the trees.
